Amatrol’s 950-PFS Product Finishing Learning Systems allow learners to acquire vital industry skills in surface preparation and painting. The 950-PFS system includes a two-sided workstation that is used to teach surface preparation skills that prepare parts for painting. Additionally, this system includes either an electrostatic liquid spray paint system, an electrostatic powder paint system, or both to provide hands-on training with industrial paint systems! Major topics covered by the 950-PFS systems include product finish inspection, sanding and scuffing, washing and pretreatment, masking and demasking, spray painting processes, electrostatic liquid spray painting, and electrostatic powder painting.
The 950-PFS system includes real-world tools and components to ensure that learners are using the same quality of tools they will see in industry. The knowledge and hands-on experience learners will gain as they progress through this learning system will increase product quality while reducing rework and related costs.
Two-Sided Workstation: Sanding /Scuffing and Masking
The hands-on surface preparation portion of the curriculum is performed on a two-sided workstation. The Sanding and Scuffing side of the workstation allows learners to perform paint inspections, install sandpaper on an orbital sander, and use the sander to perform both sanding and scuffing.
Sanding & Scuffing
One of the first things learners will encounter as they progress through the detailed curriculum is the difference between sanding and scuffing. The Sanding & Scuffing side of the trainer provides the learner with opportunities to practice both! Learners will learn how to safely operate an orbital sander as they select and install sandpaper, operate the sander, and inspect the result. The learner will learn how to use the sander to scuff a painted surface preparing it for its next paint coat while being presented with common scuffing obstacles such as corners and holes.
Learners will use various types of masking materials including masking tape, plugs, caps, cardboard templates, magnetic templates, plastic, and foil as they mask features on the trainer that simulate real-world product features. For example, the learner is asked to mask threaded holes, large openings, flanges, an antenna, and a hinged access door using different techniques and materials.
Interactive Curriculum Provides In-depth Knowledge, Simulations, and Hands-On Skill Procedures!
Amatrol’s Production Finishing curriculum is an extensive, interactive multimedia experience for the learner that takes them through the process from bare metal to the final inspection of a painted product. As learners gain knowledge of the various steps in the product finishing process, they are presented with simulations that allow them to practice their techniques before performing the same skills using real-world components. Allowing learners to practice procedures in simulation increases the likelihood that their time on the hardware trainer will be used more efficiently.
Electrostatic Spray Painting using Real-World Parts!
Amatrol’s 950-PFS system can be acquired with an electrostatic liquid paint system, an electrostatic powder paint system, or both! Each process requires different skill sets that are covered in the interactive curriculum using simulations before the learner steps into a paint booth to paint actual parts. As part of the hands-on curriculum, the learner will paint a fender from a trailer, a large electrical panel, and an angled plate that they previously scuffed using a pneumatic sander. Amatrol has designed this training system to allow these parts to be reused to avoid the need for each learner to have their own set of parts to paint.
