Advanced Rigging Training | eBook Curriculum

eBook: EB18691

Amatrol’s advanced rigging eBook curriculum (E18691) expands a learner’s rigging knowledge to include: fiber rope whipping and splicing, load turning, wire rope termination, and knots. As an example of the strong theoretical content in Amatrol’s curriculum, learners will study all aspects of load turning such as using two hoists to lift a load, describing the function of a spreader beam, and understanding how to perform both a 1-point and 2-point load turn.

What are Wire Mesh Slings?

Wire mesh slings are constructed of galvanized, high tensile steel mesh and alloy steel fittings. Unlike nylon and wire rope, wire mesh slings resist abrasion and cutting. The wire mesh can withstand temperatures up to 550-degrees Fahrenheit. A typical use for a wire mesh sling is to life long loads of sharp edged steel bars. A nylon sling could easily be cut in this application, but the wire mesh would not be harmed.

Wire mesh slings are specified by the following four features:

  • Sling Type – Wire mesh slings are available in two types: Type 1 (choker) and Type 2 (vertical basket).
  • Wire Mesh Gauge – Wire mesh, also called metal mesh, refers to the metal fabric made up of wound metal spirals.
  • Sling Width – Wire mesh slings are manufactured in widths ranging from 2 inches to 20 inches.
  • Length – Wire mesh slings are manufactured in standard lengths ranging from 3 ft to 20 ft in one-foot increments.
